The Alberta Fire Scottish Pipes and Drums (also known as the Alberta Fire Pipe Band, or AFPB) was formed in December 2024. The band was established by a group of dedicated pipers and drummers with a collective want for a genuinely fun and enjoyable band experience. The founding members of AFPB formed the band to operate as an independent band, servicing Calgary and outlying areas. Through their first year they found a niche, making a name for themselves in the rural communities around Calgary, expanding their performance locations and membership. In 2026, the AFPB was pleased to enter into a partnership with Strathmore Legion #10.

The Mandate of the AFPB is to support local and rural communities with the celebration of Scottish Heritage. AFPB focuses on all aspects of Scottish entertainment including piping, drumming, and highland dancing. As the band is primarily a performance band, our motivation is to support local and outlying communities, including legions, through performances and community engagement.

AFPB holds weekly practices on Thursday nights at the Forest Lawn Legion in Calgary, and monthly practices Saturdays at the Strathmore Legion.

The Identity of Alberta Fire Scottish Pipes & Drums

Alberta Fire Pipe Band’s identity is rooted in resilience, heritage, and bold individuality. Designed by Tara Christie Kyle in April 2025, the logo honours the band’s past while celebrating its independent future. The greyed Alberta tartan and Phoenix symbolize a group that has weathered storms and risen stronger. Their black, grey, and orange colours reflect a spirited mix of beginners and seasoned veterans, united by their love of Scottish pipes, drums, and dance. By wearing personal kilts and costumes, members proudly share family stories and traditions.

Together, the members of the band represent that from every challenge, something powerful can rise.
